Bib numbers

Automatic numbering as entries confirm, number ranges per category, and importing bibs from your timing provider.

Updated 8 Oct 2026

Bib numbers are assigned by RaceLinq as entries confirm, so your start list is numbered before race week without a spreadsheet. The settings live in the event's Settings tab, in the Bibs card.

Automatic numbering

Switch on bib numbering and choose a start number. From then on every confirmed entry takes the next number. Entries made before you switched it on are unnumbered; Assign missing bibs gives them numbers in one go, and the Participants tab lists anyone still without one under "Needs bib".

A cancellation or refund does not reuse its number, so a cancelled entry can leave a gap. Entrants will not notice; timing systems do not mind.

Ranges per category

If your timing provider or your tradition needs the 10K in the 1000s and the half in the 2000s, give each category one or more bib ranges. The ranges for every category are edited on one screen, because they are not allowed to overlap.

  • A category with ranges fills its first block, then its next.
  • A category without ranges draws from the general sequence and skips every block another category owns.
  • When a category's blocks are full, its new entries are left unnumbered and the Participants tab shows a "Bib ranges full" notice. Add another range and run Assign missing bibs.

Editing and importing

Any bib can be edited on the participant's row. A number outside the category's range is refused unless you confirm Assign anyway, and it is then marked so you can see it was deliberate.

If your timing provider numbers the field, import their CSV in the Participants tab. Rows are matched to entrants and anything out of range is set aside as "needs review"; a switch lets you include those rows with the override if that is what you intend. Relay teams carry one number per team with a letter per leg (101A, 101B), which is how the start list and the results show them.
